Selling Guide

Selling Guide!

To sell your advertised items as quickly as possible, the following tips will help to attract potential buyers and make your ad stand out. When placing an ad on For.com.au, remember to…

Make it relevant

Place your ad under the category that best describes your item or service. If you believe there is an item category we are missing, please let us know and help us to provide a better service for you.

Make the most of your item title

Make the headline descriptive and enticing to capture attention. And try to include keywords that potential buyers will search for, such as the brand, or any specific features of the item. It may help to imagine you are the buyer. The title is crucial to influencing the buyer’s first impression, so make it clear and desirable and remember to check your spelling.

Examples of well-formed headlines:
- Sony Ericsson W810 with camera and MP3 player
- VOLVO V70 2.5 T Kinetic in great condition
- Diesel jeans women’s dark blue size 28
- King Furniture modular couch, leather, black, excellent condition

Include photos

A picture says a thousand words. So that means several pictures will do much of the talking for you. Use clear, well-lit photos from multiple angles to accurately showcase your item. Good lighting using natural or artificial light is often better than a camera flash. An uncluttered background will make your item look even more appealing. Include additional photos that highlight specific detail and unique features that make your item special.

Portray your item in detail

A convincing ad is always succinct, well organised and easy to read. Specify the item’s unique features, condition, brand, style / type / model, size, age, colour, and any other attributes worth mentioning. Remember the more information you provide, the less email queries you receive. Use the provided fields to enter information such as price, year and mileage. Check the information you have entered is accurate and correct - your selling success depends on honesty.

Set a saleable price

Unsure how to price your item? Search similar listings on the SimpleTrade site for ideas on pricing. Alternatively, check other trading sites or publications.

Help buyers calculate postage costs

To help potential buyers calculate postage costs, weigh and measure your item according to the dimensions specified by Australia Post . Selling several items? Offer buyers a discount on postage if they purchase multiple items from you.

Communicate

Ensure your contact details are current by selecting Edit my Details in the Members Dashboard. Always respond quickly to enquiries to avoid missing an opportunity to sell your item. Remember that potential buyers are your customers, so delight them!

Offer a choice of payment

Because SimpleTrade operates Australia wide your buyer may live in another State and unable to make payment in person. To make buying your item(s) quicker and easier offer a range of payment options such as direct bank deposit and PayPal. Always remember to conceal your bank details until you are satisfied it is safe to share them with your buyer.
For your protection, and the enjoyment of all SimpleTrade customers, please read SimpleTrade's Terms of Trade to ensure you get the most out of your experience.

Establish a returns policy

A returns policy helps to reassure buyers and builds your SimpleTrade reputation. Make your policy easy to understand and use bullet points to help with ease of reading lists.

Leave feedback

The experience of trade becomes enjoyable when you can buy and sell in confidence. Leaving feedback for both buyers and sellers is a significant way to build confidence and we encourage you to take a few moments at the close of your transaction to comment on your experience and strengthen the SimpleTrade community.
